Bonnie is a middle school Spanish teacher in Salem, Connecticut. Previously, she taught Spanish to students in K-5 grades in Preston, CT. While teaching in Preston, she created a program in 2010 for grades K-5, served on on the Professional Development Committee for 5 years, and created a Spanish Club for students in grades 3-5 which became an after-school program. She has previous teaching experience at East Lyme High School and in Naples, Florida.
Born and raised in New Canaan, Connecticut, Bonnie graduated from Hobart & William Smith in New York in 1983. She also obtained a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown, and earned a Masters in Educational Technology from the University of Connecticut. She is the mother of two grown children.
In 1990, Bonnie moved to Antigua, Guatemala where she lived for 15 years. Her initial job was teaching English to Spanish-speaking elementary students. She also founded and operated a specialty food store in Antigua from 1991-2005. Her two children attended a bilingual school where Bonnie was the President of the Board for 10 years. Living outside of the United States gives her a unique and broad range of perspectives.
Previously, Bonnie also worked as a research assistant at the White House under President Ronald Reagan, as well as at the Federal Reserve and on Wall Street.
She has been a full-time resident of East Lyme since 2008, and a summer resident since 1972. Fond memories and a deep connection to the community brought her back to Niantic after many years. With her financial expertise, attention to detail, and natural curiosity, she is committed to bringing fiscal discipline, transparency, and common-sense decision making to the East Lyme Board of Finance.
