Jaime Barr Shelburn

I have been a resident of Niantic for almost 25 years.

I am married to my husband, Tim, and have 3 kids, Aidan (20), Ainsley (17), and Charlie (9), and a crazy black lab named Fitz.

My school experience has been diverse and expansive, having attended 13 public and private schools in 3 different states.  I graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in 2000 with a Liberal Arts degree, minoring in Public Health and Special Education.

I have recently changed careers, starting at General Dynamics in January of 2021 as a Tech-Aide.  Prior to that I worked for the New London Probate Court for 8 years as a Clerk working on Conservatorships and Guardianships.

I have been a member of the East Lyme Board of Education since 2007, holding the title of Secretary off and on for many years.  I was the Chairperson of the Policy Committee for 15 years, recently stepping down as Chair but continuing to serve, mentor, and provide guidance.  Additionally, I am an active member on multiple Board of Education negotiation committees.

An accomplishment that I am very proud of is being appointed as the State Relations Chair of CABE, Connecticut Association of Boards of Education.  I have also been recognized by CABE in 2016 and 2021 for all of my continuing education hours.  I attend numerous continuing education opportunities year-round to keep up my knowledge of new legislation and teaching and learning trends.

In addition to being a parent and Board of Education member, I serve on the East Lyme Youth Coalition and I am on the Board of Directors for The Mirracle League of Southeastern CT.  I am an active member of my PTA and have worked on the 2021 and 2024 Safe Grad Committees.  My passion to serve my community has led me to be an Assistant Registrar and Moderator for multiple federal and local elections, and recently to become a Justice of the Peace.

When I am not on the sidelines cheering on my kids, you can find me making my own vanilla, jams and jellies, ‘celllos, and digging in the dirt.  I also enjoy reading the latest thrillers in any free time I can find.
